Wild Horizons was started in 2024 by Lindsay (Payne) Sweeney as a way to help teen cancer survivors benefit from the healing powers of the great outdoors.

Lindsay was diagnosed with leukemia at age 12. After 2 years of treatment her life went back to “normal” but she didn’t feel like the same person anymore. A year after she completed treatment, she was fortunate to go on a month long trip into the Wyoming wilderness with Wilderness Adventures.

She had no idea how much she needed that trip and returned home renewed and feeling like a light had been relit inside of her after two years of feeling different from her peers, not being able to participate in normal adolescent activities and going through dramatic body changes.

The trip allowed her to move into her high school and college years with increased self-awareness, confidence, and light-heartedness.

26 years later Lindsay wanted to give this opportunity to other teen cancer survivors and created Wild Horizons.
